
Also known as the Mimosa, full name “Albizia julibrissin” . Named after an Italian nobleman Albizia, and its Persian name Gul meaning flower, Abrisham meaning Silk ( Julibrissin).
Original habitats are Iran, Azerbaijan, China, and Korea. Made its way to United States in 1745. Flowers have a beautiful fragrant and sometimes are brewed with leaves for tea, but seeds and the seedpods are poisonous.
One of our favorite trees, and the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds agree. It survives the hot summer days, very tolerant to dry soil. Its beautiful silk like flowers add a pink hue to its branches, and create a dreamy vision of a painting.
