Martha Stewart’s slow cooker

A new book by Martha Stewart is a collection of 110 recipes for the most favorite appliance in the kitchen. You might have guessed it! The slow cooker. This book has recepies for soups and stews. How to gently poach fish, cook up creamy scalloped potatoes, and bake a perfect cheesecake.

I know it might be too early? But this book can be a nice Christmas gift.

IMG_7619.JPGThe reappearance of the crescent moon after the new moon; the return of the Sun after a total eclipse, the rising of the Sun in the morning after its troublesome absence at night were noted by people around the world; these phenomena spoke to our ancestors of the possibility of surviving death. Up there in the skies was also a metaphor of immortality.

Guidelines for your next Cashmere sweater purchase

Cashmere sweaters
Cashmere sweaters

Cashmere is luxurious and durable. It travels well and doesn’t wrinkle. It offers great insulation; is warm in the winter and cool in the spring. Cashmere is long lasting; it actually becomes softer with age and rarely pills after being worn and washed. It should last a lifetime. How to check the quality of cashmere? A quick test is to rub the palm of your hand on the surface of the garment and see if fiber starts rolling into little balls. That is not a good sign. Another quick test is to stretch the garment from side to side, you want the garment to snap back into shape, If it does not, it is a low quality fiber.
What is the difference between 2-ply and a 4-ply garment?
Two-ply yarn is better than the single yarn. Sweater designers use additional plies to add weight and color, but the extra plies add no additional quality.

If you are looking for a less expensive cashmere garment? cashmere blend with silk is a better choice. Silk is less expensive than cashmere, and blends very well with cashmere and gives garments more sheen and drape.

Crate&Barrel and CB2

Today I received Crate&Barrel’s Fall furniture catalog.  It is always nice to flip through the pages and see what the new trends are.  As an enthusiast and a fan of the store, I want to like their collection but in the last couple of seasons every image of their product is dark and overly serious.

In contrast their sister company CB2, has taken a different approach and offers a collection of home furnishing that is both fun and sophisticated.

This may be an intentional approach by the parent company Otto GmbH, so they can offer products that appeal to a wide range of tastes.

If you are the creative type take a look at both company’s websites, I think you will enjoy the visit.
