How to create a livable living room

Warm colors

With colors, textures, and living plants we can create a living area that we can enjoy spending time with our family.

Knitted, textured pillows, warm woods in the side table and mirror, and a fluffy rug in warm colors like gold, chestnut, soft greys, and browns create an inviting,  warm, relaxing surroundings. Stacks of books and magazines are a good addition to bare corners.

Curved lines and a central point in a room is also a key. Pull your furniture to the middle of the room away from walls, and make sure you have comfortable furniture so every piece is liked, and is being used. Make sure TV is not the focal point in the room. Your goal is to have everyone reading, talking, and enjoying themselves.

Scents are directly correlated with past experiences.  The smell of cookies baking, or the scent of fresh cut grass lead us to a quick trip back in time.

Some scents can do amazing things for our mind and body. They can be stress relievers, help with a bad headache, and get us to slow down and relax.

Be good to yourself, make a list of these wonderful scents and use them on daily bases to make your surroundings pleasant, and healthy.

Lavender = relaxing

For relaxation, lavender can help calm the mind and body and even help with insomnia.

Cinnamon = brain power

Peppermint = concentration 

Cinnamon, this sweet-smelling spice can boost your brain power, and attention span. And peppermint scent can invigorate your mind.

Pine = stress reliever

Jasmine = mood perk 

Pine scent can help with depression and stress.  No wonder we love our Christmas tree. Jasmine scent can create a sense of alertness, and elevate our mood.

Fresh cut grass = joyful ness

chemical released by a newly-mowed lawn can make us feel joyful and less stressed .

Citrus = boost energy & awarness

not just a super fruit because it is a great source of vitamin C, but a sniff of lemon or an orange can wake up your brain cells.

Apples = headache reliever 

the smell of the crisp fruit may actually help ease a migraine, and help with feelings of anxiety.

Before the kids go back to school, finish summer with a little sweetness. These everyday snacks are introduced to being a dessert as each of them are covered in semi sweet chocolate.

Place them individually on a tray covered with aluminum foil. Place the tray in the refrigerator for an hour before serving.

Creating a quiet space at home

We all need the quiet time to relax, think, and spend some time on our own hobbies without being distracted.

Whether you’ve got kids, a spouse, or roommates, it can be difficult to find the time and space for some peace and quiet. 

To create this quiet space

1- Go for dark or neutral colors, and dark wood for the floors, It’ll create a soothing environment where you can unwind with your own thoughts with your own favorite furniture.

2- A comfortable chair, good light for reading, soft cushions and soft throws.

3- Less foot traffic means more peace and quiet. And so when creating a quiet space in the home, pick an area that’s off the beaten path. Preferably a nice view to the street or the garden.

Fig, fruit of the ficus tree one of the world’s oldest trees,which is part of the mulberry family is sweet, delicious and good source of vitamins.

Rich in minerals including potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and copper and are a good source of antioxidants and vitamins A, E and K.

Dried or fresh figs have the same benefits, because of fig’s delicate nature it is often dried.

We love to serve dried or fresh figs with cheese and fruits, and with some added sugar turn them into a delicious jam. Use it for toppings, or for a afternoon snack with butter or cream cheese.

Our tree had a few ripe figs, perfect for tomorows’s breakfast. Add 1 Cup of water 3 TBL sp of sugar. Boil until thick syrup is made.

Watermelon lowest in calories and sugar

watermelon is one of the lowest in calories even lower than berries. May lower the risk of heart attacks and strokes by reducing blood pressure and cholesterol levels

Watermelon may help lower inflammation and oxidative damage, since it’s rich in the anti-inflammatory antioxidants lycopene and vitamin C. It is a delicious fruit to quench your thirst (it is 92% water).

Beside eating it right from the melon’s god given bowl, we can also prepare salad and side dishes.

1- Few drops of balsamic vinegar for a refreshing side dish.

2- Or mixed with feta cheese, red onions, arugula or cucumbers, olive oil, zest of lime, and mint leaves for a refreshing salad.

Doing chores for a peace of mind

Some days no matter how organized we are can turn out to be stressful. Planning, summer activities, play dates, healthy menu for meals, snacks, work schedule, family time, just too much to be aware of and in control to accomplish.

Small chores around the house based on research are healthy for our mind, by helping us to create a peaceful moment for ourselves during the day.

chores like:

-Organizing a small closet

-ironing

-washing dishes

-dusting

-deweeding a garden

-cleaning our bedroom

-cooking

it is the sense of being in the moment and  accomplishing a task that helps us separate ourselves from what is planned for the day, and satisfying when seeing the immediate results of our work.

It is a wonderful opportunity to be present, and aware, as opposed to being distracted, stressed or overwhelmed. It gives us  an opportunity to get back in touch with being happy doing something small.
