Petroglyph National Monument

Only a few minutes from Santa Fe plaza, and next to Santa Fe airport, this National park is absolutely amazing. Looking for a nice hike, early in the morning we drove a few miles to see history created by the Pueblo Indians. To describe this site with words doesn’t do it justice. We parked and walked to the base of several cliffs covered in volcanic rocks. Grass, and a carpet of beautiful wild flowers, bordering them almost framing each rock, so they can be visible from miles away. A brisk hike took us to a group of rocks covered in drawings. So vivid and clear as it was done recently. Images of birds, horses, lizards, and circle of life covered many of their surfaces. Some images were difficult to interpret, we did our best!!

From the very top of the cliffs the view of the open land is breathtaking, knowing it was created by lava pouring down from 6 volcanos almost 200,000 years ago traveling down for many miles and finally settling down creating cliffs, were we stood enjoying this perfect view.

I am looking forward to come back for the history, the view, and the hike that brought us to this unique place. A perfect place for the entire family.

Traveling has its ups and downs, especially if you’re traveling with your family, I know this as a fact. One of my most favorite places to travel with my family, keeping in mind everyone’s favorite activities, is traveling to Santa Fe New Mexico. A place with great food, gorgeous views, beautiful weather, and entertainment. Almost every weekend in summer time there is a market specializing in Spanish art, Indian art, and contemporary arts. Plus having the choice to visit more than 100 galleries on Canyon Road and shopping for southwestern jewelry, made and designed by Native Americans. There is also hiking the beautiful Aspen Vista, and many more trails, only a few miles from Santa Fe plaza.

Aspen Vista (6 mile hike)

This beautiful city is easy to visit with family and little ones, since many hotels and restaurants are accommodating to families, and pets. Please remember when you are in Santa Fe, eat without restrictions, hike with plenty of water, and be open to spending money on art that you will cherish for a life time.
