Cure your dry skin

We put a list of easy, healthy ways to get our skin looking and feeling healthy again.

Baking Soda
Soaking in a bath of baking soda for 30-60 minutes can make all the difference. Add one cup baking soda to a tub of warm water. For more localized itching you can make a paste of 1 part water to 3 parts baking soda.

Oatmeal
You can make an oatmeal bath at home. Use a food processor to chop oatmeal into a fine powder, then put it into warm water. Make sure after your bath you also moisturize your skin to lock in the barrier.

Vinegar
Dot vinegar on the spot with a cotton ball. If you’re itching all over and dryness, add two or three cups of vinegar to your bath water and soak for 15 to 30 minutes.

Milk
Pour some milk into a bowl, dip a clean white washcloth into the milk and place it to the dry itchy skin patch for 5 minutes. Milk is very soothing to inflamed, dry, itchy skin. A milk bath once in a month can also help.

Honey
Honey tightens, softens and moisturizes dry skin. tapping the area lightly with your fingertips for about 2 minutes. Rinse well with warm water, and use moisturizer afterward.

Natural Oils
For extremely dry skin it is better to use an oil-based moisturizer, like baby oil.
Avocado, jojoba and almond, also help keep dry skin hydrated. For best results, use it oil immediately after bathing. Pat your skin dry with a towel.

Cool showers or baths or even ice packs can give you an instant remedy for itchy skin.
Wear cotton or silk under your wool sweaters.

Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air.

Diet
vitamins that help to keep skin healthy are:
potassium, vitamin B and vitamin E and vitamin A.
For potassium
Eat more potatoes and bananas

For vitamin B
Eat more whole grains.
For vitamin E
Eat more corn and carrots
For vitamin A

A guide To Find your Best Bed Sheets

Two important facts to Look for:
1- thread count
2- material

The higher the thread count, the softer the sheet, and it will age well, and become soften over time. Good sheets range anywhere from 200 to 800, but ideal sheet is a combed cotton sheet in the 300 to 400 thread count range.

Jersey sheets or T-shirt sheets are made with a flat knit that keeps them soft, but also means they can be slipping, and sliding on the bed. If you live somewhere that gets extremely cold, consider flannel sheets.

Cotton is The best quality. Cotton both traps heat and lets cool air pass through in summer, so it’s a great choice for almost any climate. It can be blended with rayon and other materials that helps its weight and feel. As with any sheets you buy, do a hand test to see how you like these blends.
Look for 100% Egyptian sheets they are soft, and extremely durable. Pima or Supima cotton is known for its softness and sheen and is a little more affordable than Egyptian cotton.

Linen sheets are Perfect for hot climates, they are expensive, but will have a long life. Just be prepared to do a lot of ironing, unless you like the wrinkled look. Although satin sheets look glam and feel romantic, they can be too warm and slippery for many people.

Oatmeal, Berries, Bananas, Maple Syrup, Cinnamon, Almond Milk

Winter vegetables that are easy to find from local farmers, are the best to add to our daily meals.

Load up on carrots and turnips great source of vitamin C, and A. You can reap the benefits by roasting the carrots for a boost of beta-carotene, or boil turnips for vitamins C and A.

– Broccoli and cauliflower fresh or frozen, again are great for our immune system. Add it to lunch bags, and leave it out on the kitchen counter for a quick snaking.

Oatmeal is high in zinc great to boast our immune system, and great for the heart. Cook up the instant oatmeal or go with the old-fashioned oats.

Soup with chicken broth, vegetable broth, or water is winter’s perfect food. Include a lot of vegetables and a side of 100 percent whole grain crackers.

Sushi, great source of vitamin D. Choose rolls lined with tuna or salmon. During the winter months, when we tend to stay indoors we have less sun exposure.

We hope you stay healthy and safe during these unusualy cold days.

How to be prepared for the cold temperatures

Be prepared when you are walking or driving in frigid temperatures.

If walking dress in 3 layers.

-The layer close to skin should be a high performance material. Never cotton in winter, since cotton stays  wet when we sweat, and that will cause our body temperature to drop.
-2nd layer, wool or even fleece. Wool will keep it’s warmth even if it gets wet.
-3rd layer should a wind breaker.
Always cover your head, and pull a thin layer over your mouth & nose to heat the air you are breathing in. Gloves to keep hands warm.

In case you have to drive,
Always carry a blanket extra hats, and gloves in your car.
Keep an emergency supply kit a fully charged mobile phone, charger, spare batteries, sleeping bags, extra food and water.
Make sure family members and friends know your plans.

Our interpretation of The New Year’s Resolution😊

Yes we all have seen it!!. Gym classes are packed, new faces around the track, and more people than usual walking around the park.

This New Year, we are putting together a mental list of anything and everything that we like to try and we haven’t had the chance or the nerves to actually, well try.

Making a list of the different food, ingredients, fruits, and snacks we haven’t tried to make or eat.

Tackling a chore around the house that never have the time to start.

Or reading books, or favorite movies to watch for the first time or the umpteen  times.

Whatever you put down to accomplish next year, we hope you have fun doing it.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
