Christmas Tree Clippings from Fraser Firs & More🎄

I started this ritual four years ago. We pick up our Christmas tree, and I collect an arm full of clippings, using them later to make our mail box festive like everyone else’s in our neighborhood.

After we choose our tree, we get back to the car, and wait for our tree to get wrapped to the top of our car. Here I stand next to a mountain of clippings, and I always ask for permission to dip into the mountain, and I am always encouraged by the sales people to pick up the entire load 😂 Beautiful, green branches, with the fresh scent of Fraser Fir, that fills my car, as I drive home with our Christmas tree (which we can’t smell) on top of the car, looking like a Christmas card.

After a few days, weather permitting, I take some branches, and the trimmings that I will be using, to the mail box, and start working. It usually takes a few minutes to arrange the branches, trim a few, add berries and pine cones to make our mail box looking festive, colorful and beautiful. 🎄

I kept these berries and pinecones from last years wreath, I add them for color and more texture🎄

I still have plenty of clippings left, I am planning on using them around the house for center pieces, and the fireplace mantle. I will Take photos for another blog, stay tuned 😉Have a wonderful holiday season🎁

How to add Flavors to plain water💦

Natural flavors (herbs, fruits, vegetables)

It has been a few weeks, Since I have consciously tried to drink more water. I have realized that by drinking more water I can accomplish more, and feel better. I had noticed more and more in the mornings I woke up with sore muscles, and headaches. I do suffer from migraines, but my headaches were happening more often.

I did some research and realized I don’t drink enough water during the day and dehydration can cause achy muscles, and headaches. Knowing what is causing my problem I had to start drinking more water, and for me that was a difficult adjustment to make. I have never enjoyed drinking water, and I have always depended on deluding fruit juice, drink coffee, or Iced tea when I was thirsty. So I started thinking of ways I could add flavor, naturally to plain water, and hoping, better flavor would encourage me to drink more water, as I exercise, swim, Work in the garden, and just do my daily chores.

I hope this video will be a nice easy guide to encourage you to drink more water, and enjoy a more productive day. I have already started feeling better, and that is a very good sign.☺️

Here is the link to my video, on how I add flavors to water. https://youtu.be/L0Q1o6-bQGQ

I use a combination of herbs fruits or vegetables to add flavor to my water. Before I leave my house I take my Yeti travel mug add ice, water, and a combination of herbs and maybe a slice of lemon or another citrus fruit like tangerine, and I am ready to start my day💪🏻☺️

A Spice You Will Fall In Love

youtube.com/watch

Saffron crocus, from the Iris family, is a beautiful flower that produces Stigma, as we also know as saffron. The threads of saffron added to chicken or red meat produces a beautiful orange color, and sweet fragrance that makes any dish absolutely beautiful, and delicious. Since harvesting saffron is a difficult process, a small amount as little as .025oz can cost around $10.00. I have watched my grandmother, and mom cook with saffron all my life, and when I was little loved the responsibility of preparing saffron, by crushing it, and pouring it into a dish or adding it later for its color to chicken or rice.Preparing Saffron

Fortunately saffron is used in very small amounts, and a pinch (only 3-4 threads) is all you need for a platter of rice, and only a teaspoon for a pot of sauce. Saffron is high in antioxidants, helps depression, PMS symptoms, and helps with healthy vascular system.

How To Make A Delicious Hot Cup Of Tea🫖

Ginger, Honey, Lemon, Mint, candied Orange

It is easy just to brew a dark cup of tea, and before drinking it plain, add more flavor to it. Not just flavor, but also ingredients that can calm your stomach, calm your nerves and help you have a better day. I usually have a few things in the pantry, and depending on how I feel, I add to my hot tea : ginger, lemon (dry lemon) mint, honey, and sometimes crushed cardamom seeds for more flavor.
Crystallized ginger slowly melts in hot tea and adds more antioxidants, it is anti inflammatory , eases headaches & migraines, and lowers blood pressure. Adding lemon to your tea, can boost your immune system and increase your vitamin C intake. Honey is great for soothing a sore throat, and sweetening your tea naturally. Adding mint to hot tea reduces headaches, Improves immune system, and helps digestive system.
And my favorite candied orange slices, add natural sweetness, wonderful flavor, and vitamin C. Today, take a few minutes, and treat yourself to a hot cup of tea, any way you like It ☺️

Fresh look with homegrown Flowers

I like having flowers in my house and most of all, flowers from my garden. Cut flowers are expensive, and usually have a short life, but having a few flowering plants, and a creative touch, can help in putting together beautiful flower arrangements. I am always so happy when I put together small vases, by arranging herbs, and blooms for every room in the house. From early spring to early summer, I pick and choose from Purple pansies, star jasmine, primrose, daisies, gardenias, dahlia, and mums in the garden. Something different every few weeks. I can’t Waite for more blooms popping their heads out this summer season, so I can enjoy fuller, and more colorful arrangements.

Storing sweaters

Storing wool & cashmere sweaters

I am putting away my sweaters, and if we have another cold front coming through I am planning to wrap a dawn comforter around myself. I need the space and sweaters take too much room in my closet.

As you know with natural fibers, cashmere and wool, folding is better than hanging. Sweaters keep their shape better and seams don’t come apart when they are folded. Even more so with hand knit sweaters. To keep sweaters in perfect condition you need a dry space with a good air circulation, that way any bugs interested in spending a nice warm summer in your closet, they won’t think twice about cozying up to your beautiful cashmere and wool sweaters.

I have a system that has worked for me for years, and every fall when I look forward to putting my sweaters back on a shelf in my closet, I am always happy to see find them in a great condition. To store them I use a 100% cotton, queen or king size pillow case, and before storing them I wash my sweaters in cold water, and completely dry them.

A Fabulous House Plant🪴

The dracaena lemon lime lite

Dracaena Lemon Lite plant is beautiful and easy to care for. If you enjoy green plants, like to care for them, and decorate with them, and don’t care for complicated rituals, this is the plant that you will enjoy for a long time. It grows to layers of pale green leaves that are almost translucent. Requires very low light, and just enough water to keep its soil moist. I have just recently noticed that both my plants needed a larger pot, and to keep them healthy I needed to move them to a larger home.

To my surprise I realized they both had grown another new plant, and it was a bit crowded for both of them continue growing & spreading their roots for more nutrients. I was a proud parent of two more plants. Since I like smaller potted plants, just so I can easily move them to different rooms in the house, I decided to give the young plants their own pots.

Separating
Now 4 dracaena lemon lime plants

Looking closely I was sure that they were not attached and had their own root system, and separating them would be easy without any invasive moves against the new plants. After a few minutes I successfully created two more Dracaena lemon lime plants. 👍🥳🥳

I hope you enjoy watching the video on how I started separating, and replanting these beautiful plants. keeping fingers crossed, I hope I see the birth of new plants soon.
